I am a historian of the Americas, with a research focus on the political and social history of modern Colombia. I have taught classes in Latin American, Caribbean, and global history at Butler University and Indiana University.

Beginning in fall 2024, I will serve as Assistant Professor of Latin American History at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida.

My current book project, Designing Development: The United States, Colombia, and the Architecture of Cold War Orders, is under advance contract with Columbia University Press. The book argues that architecture was a contested form of international development in Colombia during the Cold War. It examines planners, architects, low-level bureaucrats, and architecture students, who shaped, lived within, and sometimes protested the forms that modernity would take.

Writing

I have published articles in Diplomatic History, the Journal of American Studies, Comparativ, NACLA, and Age of Revolutions; as well as book reviews in the Hispanic American Historical Review. In 2013, I published a book with the Rockefeller Foundation, entitled Food & Prosperity: Balancing Technology and Community in Agriculture. My dissertation, “Grassroots Architects: Planning, Protest, and U.S. Foreign Aid in Cold War Colombia,” (2022) is available on ProQuest.

Research

For my current book project, I researched in over twenty-five archives across the United States and Colombia. My research has been supported by Fulbright-Hays, the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations, the Tinker Foundation, Indiana University, and generous archival grants.

Teaching

As an Assistant Professor at Stetson University, I will teach classes in Latin American and world history. I previously taught at Butler University and Indiana University.

Public History

I currently serve as an editor at Age of Revolutions, a web-based, open-access, peer-reviewed journal. Previously, as a Consulting Historian at Vantage Point Historical Services Inc., I researched, edited, and wrote books and other projects for such clients as the Rockefeller Foundation, Ann Lutes Johnson, and Reptile Gardens. I have also created private archives, and I interned at the Levi Strauss & Co. archive. From 2018–2019, I was an Assistant Editor of the journal Diplomatic History.
